The deep-water channel into Milford Haven is very narrow, so tankers, ferries and other large vessels have to be sure of their approach to the Haven. From the open sea, they follow a north-easterly route at first, followed by a dog-leg change of direction to the east.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"457\" height=\"610\" src=\"https:\/\/walking-guides.co.uk\/dale\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/watwick_point_beacon.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/walking-guides.co.uk\/dale\/files\/2020\/04\/watwick_point_beacon.png 457w, https:\/\/walking-guides.co.uk\/dale\/files\/2020\/04\/watwick_point_beacon-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is another set of three navigation towers with lights at West Blockhouse Point (<a href=\"https:\/\/walking-guides.co.uk\/dale\/10-west-blockhouse-point\/\">Stop 10<\/a> on your walk). Ships out at sea can line up this tower with the central one at West Blockhouse, in order to judge the correct angle of approach to the Haven. Notice the protective ditch reaching down to the sea on the landward side, and the gun parapet facing out to sea.
