Start Point Lighthouse

The lighthouse was built in 1836. The battlement parapet of the tower reflect the gothic architecture that was favoured in early Victorian times. Originally it showed two white lights, one fixed and one revolving. This was supplemented by a bell in the 1860s. In the 1870s the tower was renovated and living accommodation for the lighthouse keepers built. The lighthouse is now fully automated.
